Frank Goodyear is the co-director of the Bowdoin College Museum of Art in Brunswick, Maine. A graduate of Princeton University (A.B.) and the University of Texas at Austin (M.A., Ph.D.), Goodyear specializes in the history of photography and American art history. He is the author of numerous scholarly essays, books, and exhibition catalogues, including Red Cloud: Photographs of a Lakota Chief (2003); Faces of the Frontier: Photographic Portraits from the American West, 1845-1924 (2009); American Cool (with Joel Dinerstein, 2014); Winslow Homer and the Camera: Photography and the Art of Painting (with Dana Byrd, 2018); and At First Light: Two Centuries of Artists in Maine (with Anne Goodyear and Michael Komanecky, 2020). His most recent exhibition Marcia Resnick: As It Is or Could Be (2022) is the first museum retrospective of this important New York photographer. Goodyear was previously a curator of photographs at the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery.
