Congresswoman Chellie Pingree represents Maine’s 1st congressional district in the United States Congress and is a national leader in climate policy. She was elected to Congress in 2008, becoming the first woman to represent the district in Washington. Living on the offshore island of North Haven, Pingree has been recognized for her leadership in helping coastal communities address threats to their future. In the 117th Congress, Pingree was named chair of the House Appropriations Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Subcommittee. As ranking member of the subcommittee in the 118th Congress, she continues her focus on addressing the climate crisis, creating well-paying jobs, and fostering equity. Pingree also serves on the House Agriculture Committee and the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration and Related Agencies as well as the Subcommittee on Military Construction, Veterans Affairs and Related Agencies. She is a member of the House Progressive Caucus, the Offshore Wind Caucus, and vice chair of the Sustainable Energy and Environment Caucus.
