Venue

The Summer Institute is held at College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor, Maine. The beautiful coastal campus is home to a vibrant and diverse community of students, staff and faculty.

The Summer Institute tent is located at the North Lawn of campus, near the Davis Center for Human Ecology.

Parking

Parking on campus during the Summer Institute is free, but spots are limited. Directional signs will be placed on all campus roads, and campus personnel will be available before each session for additional parking guidance.

We strongly encourage carpooling to reduce traffic congestion and carbon emissions! Carpooling with fellow attendees is not only an environmentally friendly option, but also provides an opportunity to network and make new connections.

Sustainability

Sustainability is central to the mission and daily life of College of the Atlantic. In 2007, COA became the first carbon-neutral college in the US, and we remain committed to eliminating fossil fuel use entirely by 2030. For nine consecutive years, COA has been named the greenest college in the country by The Princeton Review, a reflection of our deep, community-wide engagement with environmental and social justice.

From the food we grow and serve, to the energy we consume, to the systems we design for waste, cleaning, and transportation, sustainability is woven into every aspect of life and learning on campus.

Summer Institute guests are encouraged to bring their own reusable mugs and refillable water bottles, and reuse printed programs whenever possible, helping us minimize waste and model thoughtful resource use year-round.
