Description
Step into George B. Dorr Museum of Natural History, College of the Atlantic’s hands-on natural history museum devoted to the rich ecology of coastal Maine. Housed in the former headquarters of Acadia National Park, the museum features immersive student-created exhibits exploring the wildlife, landscapes, and marine ecosystems of the region.
Visitors may encounter handcrafted dioramas depicting puffins, beavers, owls, and other Maine wildlife; preserved specimens and taxidermy; whale bones and natural history collections; rotating exhibits featuring student research and artwork; and a live tide pool touch tank with sea stars, hermit crabs, snails, and other creatures from Frenchman Bay. Everything on display is researched, designed, and built by COA students, reflecting the college’s interdisciplinary approach to science, art, and environmental storytelling.
