Toby Stephenson ’98 is a mariner, educator, and naturalist who serves as Director of Marine Operations at College of the Atlantic. A licensed captain and longtime field educator, he has spent decades teaching environmental science, leading wilderness and marine expeditions, and guiding whale and seabird tours throughout coastal Maine and offshore waters.

Since 2011, Toby has captained COA’s research vessel and taught navigation, safety, and small boat operations. His work has also included marine mammal research, endangered species observation for NOAA, and expedition guiding aboard small ships.
